I REALLY need you guys!!!!!

Well I don't know where to start My son had a relapse saturday night and it nearly cost him his life. It was 108 days not using and he was out w friends they went to some girls house and she had heard storys about him and didnt want him there so he left and I guess that was his trigger because he felt bad about himself and went alone to hunt down an old aquantice so that is what he did he got some fucking heroin came home went up to his room and snorted it. When he came in he hadn't used it yet and he was fine so obviously I thought ok hes home safe I can go to bed which I did about 1/2 hour later I was thinking about him as I lay in bed and I just starting crying uncontrollably so I got up to get a tissue and went to peek in on him I opened his door he's not in his bed so I looked over to his couch and there he is slumped over and making a terrible noise i ran over and started yelling his name and propping him up his lips were blue and he wouldn't respond I started to shake him and scream his name I pryed open his eyes and they were rolled up in his head w constricted pupils I screamed to my husband call 911 he did they got here fast and gave him naproxolene I think its called and they put him on the floor and started to rescitate him my 2 daughters had to wake up to 5 cops in their house and their brother being wheeled ot on a stretcher my husband stayed home w the girls and i went to the hospital they kept him all night in critical care w me sitting by his side praying to god and thenking God for sparing him yet again The thing is I don't think he has 2 many chances left and i can't believe how close this one was when we came home yesterday my son went upstairs and saw the aftermath on his bed the discarded gloves the air thing they used to pump air back into his lifeless body and it was very upsetting to him he told me he thought I was making it sound worse to him then it really was to scare him and I asked him if he remembered the cops giving him tough love and saying to him you better thank your family for finding you on time and then you better thank us for getting here so fast he did remember but the thing is he can never forget. I wanted so badly to believe that he was not going to relapse but that wasn't to be. So I have learned again and I am soooooooooo grateful to God and whatever Angel he has watching over him because he really shouldn't be here right now. So friends as always I ask for your prayers for him and our family that he finds his way and we can go back to our "normal" life. I love you guys PLEASE don't let your guards down! Dee

Dee... I am soo very sorry... As family and friends of addicts we too have to think of herion each and everyday! IT SUCKS!
My prayers to your whole family, I hope you dont mind but I copied this and sent it to my son who will be getting out of rehab in a few days... I want him to know that this is VERY REAL and shit happens and it is scary to all! Hugs to you... I am sooo very sorry!

C thank you so much of course I don't mind you copying it if his story can save 1 person from making the same mistakes I would be so happy. Heroin is truly the devils drug I hate it with a passion. If love alone could save my son I would have no worrys but I guess he just has to learn to love himself. Thanks for the prayers! Dee

Girl, I'm so sorry,, unfortunately 106 days not using, does not make an addict clean , unless he is working a solid recovery program, relaspse is very common,,, relaspe use happens before the drug is actually taken, why it's do important to watch for those clues,,, my suggestion is get him back into rehap,,,, keep in mind that can't control if he uses or not,, I know your scared and what to protect him,, but you must give him a consequence for using,,, if you set your boundary that he is not allowed to use in the home, then I would suggest you follow through,

Praying for you guys, one step forward,, and thre steps back,,, it's important to have a solid recovery program,, my addict is living at a sober living home,,, she goes do meeting everyday, sometimes twice a day,, she has now made friends that are also recovering addicts,,, unfortunately life be the same for them, or us ,,, part of the recovery is making changes in everyday living,,,

He is alive , don't beat yourself up,, addiction is a disease,, of the mind, body and soul,, patience is the first tool, in dealing with this , once he is out of critical condition,, and is ok, but still in the hospital, give yourself a break,, don't sit with him,,, let him detox, and let him realize,, your no longer going to live in his world ,, don't cuddle him when he is in hospital,,,

Dee you poor thing! What a scary, horrific thing to have to go through... My son Justin almost od'd one day in our carport. My daughter who was 14 at the time came walking up to the carport to find her brother slumped over with a lit cigerette. She could not wake him and had to call the paramedics. They revived him and he has been still using.. His sister hates him and refuses to have any kind of relationship with him. He is now in Jail and I feel like that is the best place for him because at least there he won't be able to shoot up. (I hope) anyway I'm so sorry you and your family are dealing with this nightmare, I hate when they downplay it and make us feel like we over react!! I will keep your son in my prayers and you too.

Dee, your instinct is super human! He is blessed to have you!!!

This can well be a BIT TIME wake up call for him..

I can't imagine what your family went through that night.. The fact that you came back here to post, means a lot! You are in my thoughts.

This was a slip and it doesn't have to be a full blown relapse. He had 108 days and he can have another 108 days plus more. He doesn't need to be beat himself down because that is when the relapse can be full blown. Be encouraging, and positive.
I hope he has an addiction therapist who can help him through this.
I'm glad your insincts were right on.
I know this is a set back in your mind, but try to think this is only a slip and he doesn't have togo back to that life again. I hope he understands that also.

Oh Dee, I am so sorry. I can only imagine how scared you were. Thank god he was With your son, and thank god you went with your motherly instinct and responded to your inner voice. I will prayer for you and your family. I hope that he will get right back into the program because as katrinka said relapse doesn't have to be full blown it can be a slip. It is so hard I know because we want to trust, and have our lives be as they were, but unfortunately I don't think they will. Like with any disease your never in the clear. I too am soo very sorry for what has happened . The others are right. Try to think of it as a slip and remain positive.. Your instincts are
extremely sensitive , thank God for that..Your son will hopefully learn from this and it will help him achieve sucess in the long haul.

oh my goodness, i find tears running down my face as i read about your horrible experience!!!! it made me think about how when my sons were children and they had routine childhood illnesses how crazy worried i would be. never in a million years could i imagine a story like yours..... i have been in a close situation with my husband (my addict), as horrid as that was he is not my CHILD.. please know i am praying for your son, your girls, and for you. sending love-jms

Dear Friends i just want to thank you all for your love prayers and support it really means alot to me. I am trying to remain positive that he will get back to work with his recovery and not turn this into a full blown episode because seriously how much can one take. This is the hardest thing i have ever been through in my life. I don't really think I can take credit for the great instincts yes to some degree but the emotions I felt while laying there were from another place I really believe it was spiritual intervention which also gives me hope that God has bigger plans for this kid and it is not his time to go . Right now he is extremely angry with himself and some degree of anger is good i believe but too much can bring more problems. So he went to a meeting tonight and he is going to his conselor weds and wants me to come with him so I will be there. I so pray he learns from this episode. Thanks again for everything Hugs Dee

I appreciate your insight and wisdom - I think God helped your son through you - you're an amazing support for your family. I know I will continue to learn from you and I'm grateful to you for that!

Oh, I am so glad he is going to meetings and his councelor, and not just running away from a set back...you are right about the anger...I will continue to pray for him and your family. I do think you had a miracle.

Kimw6 i am glad that i was able to be inspirational to you that is what i felt by so many here when I first started so im glad i was able to return the favor . Kim Cardinal goes without saying thanks for your support! I went to a N/A meeting today very informative It was an open meeting but I was the only non-addict there so it gave me a chance to see things from their perspective things my son may not feel comfortable saying to me but because of the annonymity ( probably spelt that wrong) I got to listen without all the usual emotion what i learned was that a common thread seems to be that they all readily admit that they always thought they knew it all and only when they admitted they didn't they could start to work their recovery i hope that helps learning that little tidbit of info. My son is doing ok physically. mentally very down but he will have to continue working on that right now he is just going to work ( w/ his dad) so no worries there and not really going anywhere else other then meetings, school , counselor prayers to everyone Dee
