I have been married to a functioning alcoholic for 25 years and I have to say that I feel alone in the desire for him to stop the drinking. The rest of the family doesn't seem to mind at all. I often feel as though I just want to scream and not stop.He is so cruel to me, which I know is brought on by his drinking which is everyday.He runs a company and makes a good living for us. But inside he is a monster. I truly believe he is pathalogical also.He says horrid things when we are alone,I've come to find out recently he has cheated on me our entire marriage I don't have details but he has always traveled a lot and obviously been a womenizer. He has always had this thing, so called GOD complex. As he has aged though the drinking and indulgent lifestyle has taken a toll on him his health and his looks he is very overweight.I have to say I have always stayed because of my children,and no support for anyone when I did want to get out.Also he has always ramped up the rage ,control and everything when I have discussed us separating we have tried many times and he always wants to come back and he does .He does what ever he wants whenever he wants,that's the life he has always lived.He has followed in his Fathers footsteps so to speak,he was the same, and I hated that man and now I am married to the exact same person.I have been back to the attorney and we have a separate agreement but it isn't working he is going to control me manipulate me and everyone around us until one of us dies and I am so miserable. I don't know what to do I get strong and then he beats me down until I'm weak and don't have the energy to fight anymore,I feel so hopeless.You see with all the addictions he is still in complete control of all of our finances and uses this against me when we talk of the divorce that he will destroy me,but I already feel destroyed by him. I feel I have no leverage here with this monster of a man and no back up either everyone fears to make him angry so it is best just left unsaid with him.Part of us all everyone enabling him! And he is killing us all slowly but surely.
