Addiction affects more than just the individual. This community is dedicated to the families and friends of individuals suffering from any form of addiction. Mental health professionals are increasingly considering alcoholism and addiction as diseases that flourish in and are enabled by family systems. Family members react to the addicted person with particular behavioral...
Also my heart breaks for her little boy. Thank God he has you. The selfish behaviors of addicts with their children.
I really don't know much about your story. Seems she was taking the focus off herself in taking about how others were nodding off. Has she fallen before? My sons old rehab said if they have never fallen they will never learn. Seems to me she needs to be cut off again until she gets back on track. I wouldn't worry about the holidays right now. It's looking down the road and worrying about what if. See what she does.
I would personally call that Doctor. If for no other reason then to shake him up by giving him an earful.
My son had an injury a couple of weeks ago while in rehab. He was in pain. Since being in recovery he couldn't take anything. Nor did he want to. What amazes me is how fast they were to ask him serveral times if he wanted something for the pain. What part of recovery don't medical professionals not understand. And we wonder why the world is like it is.
Sending hugs.
yes, I would call and complain to the shrink who hurt his patient. HURT her, because he knows her history. Hear an explanation, and if there is none? send a letter to the medical board.
as for your daughter....you can't have her back now...and maybe not ever. You have to keep grandson and yourself and family safe.
Right now my main concern is my grandson he means everything to me, he is a miracle baby, my daughter was told she probably would not be able to have children because she had an ovary and fallopian tube removed several years ago due to endomitriosus (probably spelled that wrong). This is another reason I am so angry with her, she is a good mother when she is sober and I know she truly loves him, I just don't get it why do the pills come first, I feel like she is being so selfish.
I am really considering calling her doctor or whoever he has to answer to in the clinic she goes to. I agree with you, it is a disgrace the way so many doctors hand out prescriptions, its so easy for addicts to get pills its like going to the store to buy candy.
I'm happy to hear that your son refused pain med's when he hurt himself. I'm sure you must have been proud of him. It's small things like that that mean so much to us as parents. Thank you for your advice. Good luck with your son and his recovery.
Hugs,
Pat
Yes, complain to the medical board. Wouldn't even bother talking to the Dr. He will cover his ass.
My son has been doing so good, but had been addicted to pain killers and other things in the past. Even OD'd from them a few years ago. He was off them, clean.. and then he hurt his back bad. He went to the same doctor who treated him when he OD'D and the ass gave him Oxycodin again. He took them because he was in such pain, nothing was working. He got hooked again, then the Dr wouldn't refill his prescription. So he had to get them the old way.. off the streets. Paid TONS per pill. Went broke for a bit. Didn't work, etc. BUT he got his head together because he has changed, he went to a local clinic that gives them methadone to kick the habit, and does counseling. He goes once a week for the methadone shot, and a few times a week to the counselor if he feels he needs to. He is very faithfully going to see her now, and doing what he has to do to stay clean. He gets sick from the med's sometimes. Landed in the hospital one night he was throwing up so bad. But he don't give up. He finally realized he has a good life now. A good woman, a big family full of kids, she is pregnant and isn't working, so it is all on his shoulders and he is doing it. He likes the life he has made without drugs. Then the stupid dr gets him hooked again. So he is fighting hard. But this took til he was 34 to get this through his head. He also is dealing with a pregnant gf who is NOT working, and used to make good money, she is OCD and ADHD and not taking those med's while pregnant, so she turns into a bitch. Poor baby is trying, and all of this should or could send him back to that old way. Think he just can't afford it anymore. AND has finally become responsible. He stays busy doing things on his house, and yard, and taking the kids on little adventures, etc. He finally found a positive way to fight the urges. It took him years.
Maybe someday your daughter will get to that point, but the poor kid in the meantime will be damaged forever because of her. BUT he has you and his dad.
I guess at this point, I wouldn't let him talk to her while he is with you. If his dad decides to let him, that can't be helped. The kid is mad at her now and hurt. She will be lying to him Who knows telling him what.
How old is he??? If old enough, maybe it is time to tell him that mommy is NOT working, she is sick, with problems that make her not be able to be around him and be a good mommy right now. And that she is away to get help so she can be again.
Telling him she is away at a job won't explain why she acted odd around him when home. If he was there while she was, he had to of seen her out of it, and you both fighting. Don't lie to him. They are smart even when really young. Tell him she needs help, but she will be better someday and she loves him. Just can't show it the way mommy's do right now.
My granddaughter's mom was a drunk, and into drugs. Think she still is. I don't see her much. No matter what she acted like, how she treated Emmy, Emmy missed her and adored her. Any little thing that witch did with Emmy, Emmy thought the sun rose and set with her. They see their mom's in a different light than we do.
Me and her other grandma and her aunties have raised that kid, before my son got out of prison. Not the mom. Just recently Emmy had seen her mom ONCE in a month.. while it was summer. She still adores her. Misses her. Mom supposedly lives in Emmy's grandma's house with her the days she is there, but where was mommy? My son has her a lot during the summer, and it is a great life there. Nice clean house, no one drinking, family time, meals, everything she don't get living at her grandma's with her mommy and a ton of other people, in a filthy house. But she still adores mommy. It's the only way she has ever known her mom. She don't have the PTA type mommy who does what mom's should do. They do adapt to it.
Then she goes to my son's house, and he is awesome with her, and so is his gf.
Maybe your grandson has a good home when he is at his dad's too. Is he good to him?
He has you. Always has had you, just like my Emmy has had me, and always will. I feel a bit replaced now that son is out of prison and taking his responsibilities seriously with her and all his kids. It's about time. When Emmy started school I lost the time I could have with her, like before. I miss that. But she loves school, loves her daddy, and family, and is a very well adjusted kid for one that has had such a messed up mom.
My point is to show you that Emmy has had a life similar to what your grandson has, SOME loving, caring family people, and a mom who only gives a damn about herself. And Emmy has thrived and is doing great. It's the life she knows as normal to her. She has enough other family support and love to be ok.
I am pushing my fiance to move back to MN so I can be more active in her life and my other grandkids lives. I hope we can someday.
You are an awesome woman, mother and grandma. Just keep that in your head, and do what you need to do for you, and that grandson. It is time your daughter does things for herself without your help. You can't help her anymore. She has to fall to get back up.
Your miracle grandson was born for a reason. He was put here to make you guys happy. Maybe someday she will realize the miracle he is, and that she has wasted so much time being with.
MAYBE he needs to talk to her and say to her I AM MAD AT YOU MOMMY!! Maybe that will get to her.
I took him back last jail stints only to have him passed out on my floor or my front door open and my dogs were missing. (Found them). I've sat in chairs at family meetings since he's 14. I've done everything I could to try and support him. He's bi polar and refuses to take meds.
He just got out of jail two weeks ago. He already stole my tablet
For money for heroin. Living in a shelter and no alternatives he is now in his upteen't rehab. Won't you believe he calls because he has nothing and needs new jeans. I swear I am stunned. Steal from me a week ago and I should go buy him jeans.
All I can think at this point is he's been so out of touch with who I am and who I became with him gone in jail that he thinks I don't see thru his manipulation and BS.
I know in my heart he's doing rehab because it's a better bed and room then the shelter. Will he ever change? Don't know. I preach always hope...this one is a difficult situation to believe in. I'm trying. But no jeans...no
Money...no nothing but a visit until he has a long track record. This motel is closed
