I have to vent..... So Justin calls me fromthe Psyche ward of our local hospital and tells me they are releasing me right now! I'm like wait I have not spoken to the treatment team to discuss your options so I call up there and get justins social worker who has NEVER even spoken to Justin. He tells me yea I'm releasing him but I got him a bed in the homeless shelter and two weeks worth of Thorazine. I was like no he needs to be in a residential treatment program and he is like WHAT?? He said Justin has told noone he is a drug addict!!! What???? he was there TEN days and you all don't know that he is an addict that just got out of jail that has been using heroin and crack for the last ten years???
He fooled all of them but then he was pissed at me, at Justin. He was so mean and rude to me!!! He was like Why ARE YOU TRYING TO HELP HIM? umm I'M HIS MOTHER AND ALL i WANTED TO DO WAS MAKE SURE HE GOT INTO A TREATMENT PROGRAM. JUSTIN SUFFERS FROM severe SOCIAL ANXIETY and drug addiction and I'm trying to help you guys help him. Well they were pissed that an addict had fooled them I don't know but they refuse to make a refferal into the drug treatment place and they are discharging him to a homeless shelter. OMG how does a person treat another person like this? I was not rude to the guy at all I just had questions and I have NEVER been treated so coldly and rudely in my freakin life.
I am going to get Justin he is not going to the homeless shelter, I will make calls until somebody somewhere takes him. He wants to go to treatment, he is finally ready and this is what happens!!!

I am so sorry for this complete cluster fluck of beaurocracy....but I am happy to see your mother tigress come out...Hell bent on getting your son what he needs.
Did no one listen to him, or did he not tell anyone that he had a drug problem? And after years of this line of business....wouldn't they be detached enough to learn not to take things personally? how unprofessional.

You go girl! Kick some bootie and get that boy back in a program.

Frustrating , surrender it marge,, did Justin not tell them he was an addict?,,, keep focus,, and please don't let the mental illness,, be a reason for Justin to use,, not saying this to be cold,, don't get played by Justin either,,,, the system is doing it to you,,I think your best bet would go to court and become Justin guardian,, this way you have the first and last words,,

Hi Marg. this is absolutely wrong. Call your Attorney General's office about this and see if they have an advocacy group that can help you; and then lodge a complaint with the State Board of Health. Keep us posted and hang in there.

This might sound a little nuts but I was at my wits end with trying to get my sister help. Not that she wanted it. The police would not help, the emt.'s wouldn't help. I emailed my then governor Charlie Crist. He had his assistant help me get her into a program. She, the assistant actually called to check that everyone had done what they were suppose to do. It might be worth a shot. If it can happen in Florida it can happen anywhere. To bad my sister didn't hold up her end.

I think it all comes down to $$$$. It is a whole cheaper to send your son to a homeless shelter with a few pills then for the state to pay for him to go to a inpatient rehab. You can try and find state funded rehab's in your state, there may be a waiting list, but they will eventually have a bed.

I agree 100% with Katrinka, it is beaurocracy at it's worse, driven by $$$. Don't give up Marg, you fight for your son's right and your rights as a citizen. This makes me sick. Ignorance comes in all shapes and sizes, and this person is a example of pure ignorance. Stay strong Marg.

Well I have to say i have had several phone calls and apologies for this from hospital and his boss and him. and they have called every day since just to see how Justin is doing... So I know someone heard me and took this seriously.

So sorry. I'm glad to hear that they are trying to mend their carelessness.

My son is in a live-in program and will complete his 1 year in about 3 weeks. I really dont think he could have done it any other way. He also suffers from anxiety and was an addict. Best of luck finding a program for him.

Hi,
Your son is like mine. He suffers from "SAMI" substance abuse/mental illness, also called 'Dual Diagnosis"

I have been through so much with my son too.

I currently have Jacob at Cambridge Hospital in Ohio. It is a great hospital that specifically treats individuals with substance abuse & mental illness.

Look it up online, maybe they can help your son too. I will pray for you & your son, please remember Jacob & me in yours.....Kim

Justin has MAJOR anxiety which prevents him from being able to talk with most people and as you know rehab and treatment REVOLVE around talking and sharing . So his intention was to start treating his mental condition so that he can then go into treatment and DO treatment.
