The film I just saw on espn of the player who fell in to abuse...ends with his 3 year soberversary...and he says that at day 3 years and one day...it is still one day at a time.

I understand from my son that someone in his old group hit 20 years and decided to celebrate with champagne, and came back the next week as a newbie.

there are no guarantees. But there are people who do stay sober.
is he doing well? is he feeling healthy and strong in his sobriety? Have you asked him that? you can express your worries over past behaviors and ask him if he is doing well...and he can understand you need a bit of reassurance.

Katrinka says the younger you are when you quit, and the longer you stay sober, the better your chances.

I will admit to not relaxing until after 3 years...first year, they hold onto sobriety, second they figure out why they got so screwed up and hold onto sobriety, and the third year they figure out how to have balance in their lives and remain sober. that's my 2 cents.

Anything is possible, to answer your question UHm would be the golden ticket,, for some ( guess I should say for me) you never give up that hope, dealing with addiction is a life long battle, so do you live your life on the what it's ? Quite possibly, are you always waiting for that relaspse I suppose,, but it not the storm, it's the ablity to dance in the rain,, you live life with the circumstance controlling your happiness ,, or you controll the circumstance with happiness,,

My circumstance is different I'm the mother of an addict,, until my last breath I will never give up hope,, go I get frusturate, weak, you bet I do , have I learned to deal with it,, I have,, will she ever get clean that's where the hope comes in, will she stay clean ?, can't answer that it's not my will be done,,
Do I love her less,, nope love her with all my heart, do I hate what the addiction has done,, with every last fiber in my body,, but I've come to the point that I will not let it consume me,, of course God, my ultimate support buddy( that is with me daily ) support groups I attend,, and educating myself, without these tools I would never be able to do this on my own!

So your question?,, worth a million bucks,, to live a life peaceful priceless

I do believe that you can get and stay sober as my friend Dee's son says in a crack house if you really want it. I'm here because my son is an addict first opiates that led to heroin and other drugs but right now I want to tell you about me. I am 47 soon to be 48 years old when I was a teenager 13 and up I smoked pot every day did my fair share of drinking too but what really sucked me in was cocaine. I loved it couldn't live without it from the time I turned 17 until I was 20 or 21 so it was quite awhile. I suffered some physical problems and many financial problems from it. I would go to places to score it that I would be afraid to drive through today. My point is I made many risky decisions at that time regarding getting and using it and one day something just clicked in my brain I realized what I was doing to my health and how much trouble I could get in to and I decided it was time to stop. I stopped going to old areas where I used to get it stopped hanging out with people that I used it with I even found a new job because my boss used it with me at work . That was almost 30 years ago and I have never used any drugs since then. I don't even drink maybe a drink at a wedding or on vacation but I usually don't even do it then. I just don't like to drink gives me a headache the point is at one time I was in bad shape from it but I knew I needed to change and I did. I know a lot of people will disagree with me as far as once an addict always an addict and I don't know maybe I am the exception to the rule but I don't consider myself an addict if anything I am the anti drug that was another lifetime ago so yes it is definitely possible to get better and stay better!
