wishing your son strength in the days ahead
Your post really made me think. I also have someone that I have a strong dislike for because of the horrible things that he has done because of his addiction. I have banned him from our house, blocked his phone number and made it clear to him that I never want to see or hear from him again. On Saturday he asked my son if he could come to our house because he was going through withdrawal and thinking of getting clean. My response was "absolutely not". He actually was serious and checked in to the hospital for detox from heroin and benzos. He called my son and wanted his advice about in patient rehab, where he is starting this week.
Your post made me re-consider. I know that addiction completely changes a person and makes them behave very badly. I don't know what the sober person is like. I had my son tell him that I support his attempt to get sober and wish him well. I even passed on some advice of my own. It also made me feel terrific to hear my son sincerely trying to help him to get off drugs.
So, your comment about her being an angel rings true. I think God will judge her based on the person she was before she started down this path.
Don't feel badly about turning him away. I would've done that same thing if I had been in your shoes. But gladly he is rehab....so don't beat yourself up, we do enough of that with our own addicts.
I'm new here and wish I had known about this group years ago.
I send love, healing, peace and strength to all of you here, and to our addicted loved ones.
God bless
