Our 27-year-old addict son overdosed on heroin yesterday morning. If his boss hadn't found him unconscious, he wouldn't have survived. His boss administered CPR until the police and EMT's arrived. He received 3 "hits" of Narcan before reviving, was transported to the ER, and released just hours later. Our older son notified us and when we arrived at the ER, our addict son was angry and wanted to know why they let us back there, told us we should be there, etc. So we left.
We haven't had any word from him since. He refused to tell us what happened {we got the details from our older son}, and refuses to accept that, for all intents and purposes, he was clinically dead...not breathing, blue, non-responsive.
Is this how it will end? Did God really save him yesterday just to have him die at his own hands at a later date?
We grew up in stable homes, raised our kids in a stable home, and they both became heroin addicts. Our older son is 2+ years clean, but our younger one continues to embrace a life of addiction.
We feel so utterly helpless...no one can help him but himself. Please pray for us if you feel so led. How many times can a human heart break?

Perhaps you can use this opportunity to tell your sober son how much it means to you that he is no longer putting himself and you through this hell.

I'm telling you he was the worst of the worst. Never in a million years would I think this would ever happen.
Where there is life there's hope. I know what you live like. I have two addicts. Life is hell living with this for 21 years. I pray a lot and live always in fear. We understand what you feel. I'm sorry for the pain you are going thru. just know we get it.

Our son checked-in to an in-patient detox/rehab last Friday morning. His time there is yet-to-be determined {21-30 days}, and there's a second phase {60-90 days} that he can go into afterwards. We pray night and day that he remains, completes the program, and rebuilds his life, never going back, never relapsing. My stomach is in knots 24/7 as fearful thoughts torment me. The enemy is fighting hard...but my GOD is able. Drawing closer to Him through all of this, holding onto His Word.
Our son is now on suboxone. Do any of you have experience - either personal or second-hand - with this medication? I've researched it via the internet, but of course, the opinions are varied and vast.
