Well my son has been discharged from his rehab. We worked hard on figuring out the best plan for aftercare. Where he will go and what he will do.

He's asked to relocate out of state to sober living. I think this is a great idea to give him a fresh start. It's a bold move on his part. I'm all for it. So what's the problem? I'm worried. I will miss him terribly. He will know one person in this state.

I'm realizing how attached I am to him. I just read the post on separation anxiety. I think I'm having a bad case of it. Unless it's really a bad case of WHAT IF's. I can't control it here and I certainly can't control it there.

Putting him on a plane Sunday. It's in Gods hands.

Letting go and letting God is probably the best thing you can do.Use the space between the two of you to rest and heal from all the stress you've been through.I understand as a Mom we want to protect them forever. Always remember,there is nothing as strong as a Mothers Prayer. God Bless

How wonderful an opportunity for him. And you can send him a dunkin donuts card or something every once in a while and send some love.

only relationship that if we do it right, they leave us.

Good for him!!
I know it's hard to have him go far away, but what a good decision on his part! He will be a phone call away:). We spend so much time, energy, and money on our addicts that when they do leave for a rehab, sober living, and get clean (hopefully) that we feel an emptiness. Maybe this will be a good time to focus on yourself and your healthy relationships :)
And Blue is right......it is the one relationship that if we do it right they leave!

Well he moved yesterday. I cried. I cried because I will miss the clean him and I cried because he's doing hard things these days. Whew. Yes I spent the day cleaning and organizing (I have my new place now two months). I got a new puppy since my other passed. Spent the day also walking and getting puppy kisses. One can get used to this.

Sounds like you are taking very good care of yourself.
I wish I was better at crying. I just can't do it. never have been able to do it easily...so when I do? it can last for days...so I don't. not healthy.

I know my puppy has been so good for us. she is 6 now...just love hearing her snore.

I hope this journey for him IS hard...and that he sticks with it. It will make him stronger in the fight to stay sober. I am glad he did go.

It's so hard to let our kids go even if there isn't an addiction issue, but the addiction makes it much more scary. What I've learned is I have no control over it and every time I worry about what might happen, I ask myself if this is adding anything to the quality of my life and is it helping my son to be sober? The choice is their's and good that he sees a sober living environment is the best place for him. It's a hard lesson for us moms to know that we can't love them into being sober. I wish your son a long sober life and for you mom, some peace. Oh how we need peace. I finally have some (my son's been off hard drugs for over a year). He did the work, though I did my best to put the opportunities in front of him to make better choices.
