Some good news to share. My son is finishing his program Tuesday. He's clean 115 days. He's home today for an overnight visit. He's free to do anything he wants for 24 hours. What he did today...2 hours at the gym. And now at an NA meeting. He had breakfast with me. Coffee with his Dad and dinner with my son DIL and his three year old niece. I cannot remember having a night like this with him home in at least 9
Years. Just thinking about how he was just months ago brings me to tears.
I offered to let him come home. Give him another chance. I'm so proud of him. He made such a wise and adult decision to go to a sober house and ease back into life with structure and support.
I just wanted to share this to give hope. He had a birthday since he has been in rehab. I never thought he would make it to see it. He was using 10 to 14 bags of heroin each day for 7 years.
He still has a long road ahead. But each day he takes more and more steps to build a healthy lifestyle. I also take those steps with him. I'm not the same person I was months ago either. I've learned to take care of myself. Do the things I've always wanted to do.
The first half of my life has been making a living....this next half
(If I live till 100) will be about making a difference. I am a young 55
And retired. I've just been accept to nursing school. It's what I've always wanted to do and just couldn't. I hope to be able to give back what I have gotten from so many people.

For me, I remember the very first time my son used 21 years ago. I sat sitting on a curb somewhere crying my heart out. Not knowing what to do or where to turn. I also remember the people who reached out to me and offered help. I his first rehab there was a mother who child was in recovery for a while. She ran a parent group. I'll never forget what she did for me. We worked in the same building. She called me each morning to let me know she was just a few floors below me and I wasn't alone. One day I was having a really hard day. She was sitting in my office waiting room when I got there just to let me know someone cared.
There are a lot of people suffering out there for the first time not knowing where to turn. I'm not going to be someone who has moved on. I can't live that way.
So Blue for what it's worth from me....I think you are wonderful. Just to log in here and see someone give a hug or some encouragement can change someone's day. Thank you for not moving on.
