well it's good he isn't using and that he confided in you. Just keep reminding him to stay STRONG, which is so difficult because he is the fight of his life now. I hope he continues to do well, even though the temptation is great. Hope to hear some good news from you soon.

wow, Marg that is extraorindary. He is now vocalizing his thoughts rather than acting on them, that is a great accomplishment. I had learned that the urge will subside within two minutes, so I believe he needs to start learning the tools, such as excercise, calling his sponsor, re-focusing his mind until the urge passes, but if he is telling you talk him through it, re-inforcing that it will pass and take his mind somewhere else. It's ok to be scared, I am scared everyday of my life somedays a little, somedays alot. He is doing great, and it will take time for him to trust his sponsor, and roomates, now he trust the person he knows best, you. One day at a time my friend.

it is great that he confided in you. i would feel the same way as you did...what do i say now? I guess talk him through it, maybe even offer to go to a meeting with him or read through some of the na literature..i will say a prayer for him

It is great he is opening up...I would encourage him to talk to his sponsor. that is what the guy signed up for- to be there as another addict and help him thru it.
I was told,
"don't be his mom and his advisor."
but isn't it wonderful he can still get some comfort from his mom. Yea!

I agree with everyone else, it's good he told you. Opening up is a process and a very difficult one for most people, addicted or not. Give it time..

It seems he has you very close to his heart, which is so moving, it brought tears to my eyes.. However, you are neither his counselor, nor his sponsor and it's good you realise that.

To answer your question, I have nothing more to add to what everyone else said. Well, apart from giving him a hug and reminding him that he is loved, wanted and that you believe in the real him.

I think it is really really good that he told you. I could never get my person to confide things like that and I really believe that kind of honesty and openness is necessary for recovery.
