Our son is 22, has already served 2 1/2 years in the Navy. It began with pills, then went to Heroin, 'magic mushrooms', it got ugly. He went from a physically well built young man, classy, always well dressed/mannered, to a skeletally thin, ungroomed mess. It caused friction between my husband and myself (it is his step dad) . This has been almost 3 1/2 years now. I have thrown him out several times. He got it together, went to college last fall and a friend OD'd and he relapsed, blew his grades and lied about everything. I tossed him out. He was homeless, had nothing, no money, he was angry, then he hit rock bottom and couldn't take it anymore and hated the life he was in, he found a girl, and sometimes when she talks and her mannerisms makes me wonder if she is not an angel sent from above, and he made changes, I watched, listened and waited. It got to a point where he was at a turning point, I allowed him back home. I know he is not perfect. We may not see eye to eye on a few things, but he is maintaining, open and honest and he has dreams big ones, but dreams and things are happening for him, positive things....I am still watching closely, keeping my mouth closed and praying....
I've also been married to an alcoholic who was abusive (his birth father)....so I've had my fair share of addictive relationships. I didn't fully understand until I got on here....
So read, post, ask questions....get counseling...and take YOUR LIFE BACK....
Hugs to all,
K

Thank you my darling friends, you are my angels love you all.
16 alcohol and everything he could get his hands on. He is now addicted to heroin. He has been in and out of treatment programs, meth clinics, therapy. You name it we have tried it. My son is very quiet and shy and has never been comfortable talking to anyone. Well 3 days ago his older sister gets a message on FB telling her hi I'm your brothers boyfriend. Well I have talked to this man who is a 5 year recovering addict and he tells me he is 100 Percent positive my son is gay. We have no problem with our son being gay in fact I have told all of my kids if you are gay I will love you no matter what. But apparently my son has a huge problem with it. according to his friend he despises himself for it and will never tell his family. He does not know we know because he was arrested yesterday and we have yet to hear from him. His so called boyfriend told him that he has informed his family so he knows we know and I feel like this may be the missing puzzle we have been searching for all this time. Like why does my son despise himself so much that he would constanly risk his life and live the life of a homeless drug addict? This is certainly not going to cure his addiction but it gives us a tiny bit of hope for maybe being able to help him? I don't know what will happen to him I'm hoping he will have to stay in jail long enough to get all these drugs out of his system. I know he will at least be safe while he is in there.... And hopefully we can tell him how much we love him no matter what..... anyone have anthing they can add to this?
