we are heroin moms. We belong to an exclusive club that only we can relate to. Don't be offended if your not invited to join us. This is one club you do not want to be part of. We spend our time worrying, wondering, anxiously awaiting that phone call or knock on the door. We love our children;we try to help them. We naively believe their stories, at least the beginning. We do all we can to get them the help they so desperately need, only to have our hearts abroken when the refuse to accept it. We throw our arms up and begin to blame ourselves, at first for a while. Until we better understand the power of this all consumining, God awful drug.
The only moms who secretly wish our children would go to jail, where at least for a while, they would be safe from overdose, and have time to get clean. Giving us a glimpse of who they once were, who they could be again. We see the evidence, we know the truth, yet so easily slip into denial. We observe our once happy, loving kids tun to people we no longer recongnize. We see them turn mean, hear them curse us out, lie to us and steal from us. And yet we still love them, only with a broken heart now. We are forced to sever ties, kick our beloved children out of our homes. The most guy wrentching decision that no parent should have to make. We watch our children choose drugs and friends over their family. We have Christmas dinner with one chair empty and a piece of our heart missing. We are heroin moms, You do not want to be one of us.
But if you ever find yourself a member of our club, know this. Our stories are different, yet so similar. We lean on each other, guide each other and learn from each other lessons that few will have a chance to learn. Are we a blessed group? or just kindred sprits forced to come together and fight the same enemy. we are like comrades on any battlefield, we don't leave each other behind. Through it all we meet stron, brave women and learn that we are never alone. We are moms fighting the toughest battle many will ever encounter.

NO ONE WANTS TO GROW UP AND ONE DAY BE A DRUG ADDICT, BUT again unless and until it happens to you or someone in your family you will never ever understand that.
But I can't help but think of the hell that must have been for her parents and family. They seem rather reserved and untrusting of her now. Timid, I guess. She is frustrated that her dad and step mom are lacking in parental support these days - but I sometimes wonder if their current behavior is reflective of the way she treated them when her addiction was active.
For you heroin moms - does the worry ever go away, even if they have given up the drugs? Or is there a continual worry and lingering pain?
they say if you look hard enough, you can find a blessing in every situation... all of you, my dear friends are the blessing in this horrible path we walk... couldn't do it without you!!
