Got back last night from attending my nephew's out-of-town wedding. Saw my entire family minus many of the 20-30 something generation. All children are thriving: getting advanced degrees, working, getting engaged, establishing careers. But not my son. He's in jail facing three felony charges, feeding his anger. To top it off, he was transferred from the jail facility he was in 6 hours away to our local jail to so he could attend his pretrial for the local charge. He got in touch with me while I was at the rehearsal dinner and again last night after I got back home. This morning I called our jail and I can't see him until he requests a visit from me in writing and provides information about me that he doesn't have (my driver's license #). He also doesn't know how long he'll be in our hometown because they don't disclose when he'll be taken back for security reasons. So he's minutes away but I can't visit him. And worse of all, his mug shot appeared in our local paper's online editionthe day he entered our local jail so what's been our private anguish is out in public for everyone to comment on and discuss. Sad way to start the week.
I tell myself this every single day.
It will get better. You just have to believe.
It taught us humility...NOT humiliation...and people will come out of the woodwork to talk to you about their kids and their husbands or wives...you just wait and see.
Whatever doesn't kill us makes us stronger.
and if he asks at the jail they will tell him what to ask for- or he will find out from you when he calls.
Guess what? there is good news! He is safe and sober. He is going to pay his dues, and then his future is up to him....and he has forced time to think about it.
I have been there. I feel you. focus on the good. BIG hugs!
