Hello my friends I had the opportunity to fly to Florida to see my son in his last weekend in rehab. He has decided to stay in florida and go into sober living. I am proud of him for the choices he is making, but why can't I stop worrying. I am a very strong, take charge person by nature but I am also a worrier. He is in a positive mode, but I'm scared. I know that I my worrying isn't going to stop him if he will choose to use. The weekend was very emotional for me on many levels. Happy, sad, anxious nd scared, essentially emotionally draining. I am thankful for everyday that he is clean and I try not to think to far ahead. I am going to the seemy therapist tommorrow. I wonder has any helpful solutions to ward off the worry.

If you think about it the unknown is scary. You can hope your son stays on the road to recovery, but you can't make him and at the same time you still can't help but worry. Keep telling yourself this is not in my control. When you obsess say STOP out loud or in your head, this rewires the thought process. In the beginning you have to do it more.

I'm not sure if the worry will ever go away....but learning coping skills to control the worry is what I had to do!

Good that you are heading to the therapist....I hope you find some help!

I constantly worry about my recovering addict husband. I am constantly trying to make sure he goes to his meetings and check to see where he is and where his money is going. The truth is I can't stop him from using. If he wants to he will find a way. Not having control of something that can tear up lives is hard. I still have sleepless nights when he is on a business trip and his co-workers drink the whole time . It is getting better. The last trip was easier but I had him call me and tell me where his meeting was and he declined dinner with his work buddies. Good luck. It is not easy
