Hello, My partner is a heroin addict, we have really been trough a lot recently with his addiction. He was in treatment for a month in september 2015 and I thought we were on the road to recovery. We were both attending aftercare meetings him na and aa and me alanon. Then I discovered he relapsed. He spiraled out of control and caused a lot of damage to all his loved ones. He is now back in treatment and is going to secondary care (sober house) for 3 months. He has left such a mess behind. I have so much anger and resentment. It is all so raw and difficult to deal with. I was at an alanon meeting tonight which was tough but good. I am trying to learn to detach with love. I love this person a lot, I miss him and worry for our future! I'm exhausted in every way!

Hi Sarah! I feel ur pain, my husband is an alcoholic. He is not currently drinking but I am not sure how long it will last. I stress about it a lot, but I'm trying to take it one day at a time! I pray for the best for u!

Hi Christina, thank you. Yes it is a very stressful time. I am sorry that you are going through this too. One day at a time indeed! I am really going to try hard to focus on me getting better from the damage this awful disease has caused. It is really my only option.Do you attend alanon?

I have not attended a meeting yet! I guess I haven't had the courage to yet. I am just starting to really talk about it. I need to because keeping it all in has made me depressed and withdrawn from the world my friends, family. It's like if u don't talk about it it doesn't exist. Other won't know. God forbid my perfect image will be distorted. How ridiculous right?!? But it's how I felt. Talking about it certainly has helped. U really do need focus on you. Like u I am also a broken mess from the disease.

I have found alanon really good for me. It gives me back some sanity. I don't really have anyone else to talk to about this. I find the people in my alanon group all very supportive as they have all been through the same thing and the programme is designed to help me make my life better. The first group i went to i found difficult as it was in my home town and i knew most people in the group. I found this very uncomfortable and stopped going, but soon after I found another group in another town close by and i have been going once a week for the past five or six weeks. It feels really good to talk to people who understand without judgement.

I'm glad you have support. It's very important. I think I am going to make a real attempt to go at least once a week. We are off to Disney tomorrow. I pray it goes well. There have been countless family vacations ruined by this disease!
