So my son's roller coaster ride with addiction continues. He has stopped using and drinking but the attitude is horrible. He sits around hopeless and miserable. He is going to group meetings because he is being mandated by the job, not because it's by choice. Now he is saying he cannot do it anymore and will wants to drink and take pills (his words). He knows that he will lose his job, home and everything else and doesn't care. He is only doing this for my husband and I. My response is, then you have to leave because we cannot put up with this violent, abusive behavior when he is using. He claims we are heartless because we do not understand the depression. I really do understand, but going back to alcohol and pills isn't going to solve the problem. He is not doing anything productive with his time other than sitting on the sofa pissed off at us for setting such "strict" boundaries. He will be 27 next week and I think has accepted this as his way of life. It's his way, not mind. We have been through hell and back with him with police at the house, 3 over doses, multiple fights in front of the house and my husband with a heart condition. He is selfish. His psychiatrist did not prescribe benzos to him because of his prior history so this is what is setting him off. He was anticipating some kind of heavy prescription from his "new" doctor and it didn't happen. He never takes his medication as prescribed. He doubles it or triples it according to how he feels. I get he is anxious, but he does nothing to help himself and I cannot allow this behavior to continue. He has to be responsible for his actions.
