My son was drug tested by the outpatient center he attends and his creatinine levels weren't where they should be. He's been drinking a lot of water, bringing 4 bottles of water to school with him in the morning. He also has lots of water in his room. This time of year, in the classrooms it is very hot. He and his older brothers always had an issue with the temperatures in the rooms. For some reason it seems to aggregate their allergies. Anyway, he says he's very thirsty. Even knowing that a "dirty" or diluted drug test could send him to either day school or residential (which he doesn't want to do) he says he can't help it but drink the water. I was told that drinking a lot of water wouldn't change the results of the tests. He's being encouraged to stop drinking the amount of water to see if it's the case. I looked on line and saw that a diluted test is done after the fact, adding to the specimen itself. Does anyone know anything about this? I guess it's just a wait and see situation but I am just curious. He seems fine...calm, happy, "normal", so this news is a surprise.

drinking a lot of water will cause you to have a diluted urine becuase if you drink a whole bunch of water b4 test that is exactly what will come out. i wrk in a treatment center and people do it all the time. someplaces count diluted as positive. also when people use drugs they have dry mouth and are thirsty all the time my bf drinks liquids like they are going out of style. if you realy want to know get a instant drug test and make him take it without drinking water and you will get the real results make his butt sit right with youunitl he is ready to go

I have to agree with mjr44310. When our son was in the middle of his drug mess, we did an at home test. My husband watched him urinate too to make sure he wasn't doing anything. Sorry to say, it turned out positive. I hope this isn't the case for you. Best of Luck.

I think I will set up a doctor's appt. to rule out anything else. He KNOWS that if he continues to drink water, and the results are the same that he will be bumped up to the next level. Because of his insistence... that he needs to drink water, I have to make sure there isn't anything else going on. The court does see his test results as positive, so either he cuts back, we find out that there is a medical problem, or he goes into residential. His behavior tells me he isn't using but what do I know?

2 b honest with you you are too close to be any help or be objective. trust me i know from my expereince . have a family member that is not as close observe him and maybe talk ot him to see whats going on. when we are close to the addict we want them to tell us what we want to hear and we accept it. Good luck and i hope that he is not on anything but i will leave youwith this for i wrk in residental this water thing and the i have to drink water why are ya'll holding this against me is more common actually it is the regular routine.

Should we go and have him take a blood test? That would solve the question of a diluted urine test, wouldn't it?

actually you dont have to go tht far the besttest is hair drug screen because if you did drugs in the last 7 years it is in there and there is no way around it. however these test can be costly. if you buy the instant test at your drug store and have your husband, brother or some male watch him it will ease your mind one way or another becuase you wil know . he can go an hour without drinking water and you dont warn him youjust tell him hey we are geting ready to take this test once you tell him be prepared to sit with him the entire time unitl he goes he says he needs something to drink juice will do just fine. i hope this help and i hope it comes out negative the test works like a pregnancy test usually two line neg and one line positive. if your like me i need to know for sure if the person i love was using

We did do a hair sample test ordered by our local juvenile detective, through the deversion program here in our community back last summer. We knew at that time that our son was using, as did the detective. My son had tested positive using a urine sample but that was a week prior to the hair analysis. Strangely enough, my son tested negative for EVERYTHING! Nothing showed up. I told my son back then, however, that he tested positive for a number of drugs and he didn't blink. He told me recently, after I told him that the hair test was negative, thinking the hair test was positive then -- -was the reason he didn't hold back for his assessment. He was shocked to learn now of his negative test. He told me he was using every drug (just about) under the sun and couldn't believe it. Well....I guess I will find out if there is another place I can take him, if his second test (taken Friday by his PO) is also diluted. Thanks.
