constant phone calls

How do you get an alcoholic not to call you when they are drinking? My STBX constantly calls when he is drinking. I have told him many times when he is sober not to call me when he is drinking. Today I added or do I have to take legal action? I dont even know if there is legal action for such a thing. It is harassment and stressful. If I dont answer he just keeps calling. Why do I have to live with my phones turned off ? Our son is 18 now , but lives with me while going to college.

I have AT&T, but I assume there is a similar service with other phone companies. They have a feature where you can block certain phone calls from calling your number. It costs $4.95 per month. Then you can keep your phone on.

Verizon has a blocking feature for free (at least on my plan it's free).

Why is he contacting you? Is he leaving harassing messages? If so, bring the phone with you to the police station and get a protective order for harassment. Show them the number of times he is calling.

Of course, you can get a new phone numbers. If you have a house phone, change the number and unlist the phone number. If you have a cell, change your cell number and give it to only those who need it. Since your son is living with you, there is no need for your ex to need to get in touch with you regarding your son. I assume the college has your number listed as an emergency contact and perhaps your ex's as well.

yup. change the number, block his calls or just hang up on him. period. set the boundaries in cement.

The best way to help yourself and the addict is to not live in the drama. They need the drama almost as much as they need the drug of choice disconnect with live. I read in a al-non book a letter a father wrote where his son is pasted out in his yard when he come home he step over him and went into his home. He set his bounties and stuck to them only once he wanted treatment was he willing to help. The image I have of that happening has help me to not get sucked in. When I feel weak I come here or my other support group grandparents raising grandchildren.
