My husband has been stable and recovering from opiate addiction for almost 2 years. His lying used to be terrible as with any addict while he was using. Even after he was getting clean he would lie about little things that really there was no reason to lie about. He would say he was always just so use to lying when he was using that it was habit. Every now and then he would lie then stop himself and say he was lying and would correct himself.

There hasn't been too much of an issue but I notice when he tells me stories about his day sometimes they seem...well....exaggerated. Then I feel like I rearrange his story in my head to what actually makes more sense. I don't tell him that I don't believe his stories because to me I'm just happy that I'm not being lied to about big things. I'm incredibly proud of his progress and how far he has come that I don't want to make him feel bad about himself if I tell him I think he's elaborating his stories. And mostly when he exaggerates it's in situations where it makes himself look better. And I'm all about him feeling good about himself and having more pride in himself because he had no self respect when he was using.

For anyone who has a family member who is in recovery is there still an issue with lying or exaggerating the truth? Or could this just be my his personality.
