Well Sunday started out as such a great day and ended on a scared and stressful one.
Justin who has Athsma has been complaining about wheezing and he was without an inhaler. Right now he is getting his addiction and mental health issues addressed but as far as having a medical Dr. he is without one. He is uninsured and when I called all the clinics that treat the poor or uninsured the wait lists are weeks long.
So while we were at church he went to the ER. I picked him up after church and he had already been written a prescription for an albuterol inhaler and something for his anxiety. He is already on 4 different medications. He said he told the Dr. he was still waiting for his Dr. to write him a script for his anxiety so the ER Dr. wrote one for 7 days. (Justin is scheduled to meet his new Dr. in a week. I was upset and very leary about him taking another medication but he assured me it was VERY low dose and would be fine. Well I gave Justin one pill and kept the rest on me. The day went on and Justin and I spent the day walking our new puppy and hanging out. He eventually laid down for a nap and we went to a soccer party for our other son. We were gone no more then 3 hours. Well when we got home Justin was wasted. He was slurring his words and stumbling around. I kept asking him what did you take and he assured me he took nothing. He said he felt fine just a little bit groggy. He slept through the night and I tossed and turned all night just feeling sick (like what did he relapse on????)
In the morning I felt better because he woke up and said it must have been that pill
well when I got to work I found a web site where you type in all the meds a person is taking and it tells you how they interract. I found out the stuff I gave Justin was highly dangerous and should only be given to someone under a Dr.s supervision. Said the combined drugs slowes down the central nervous system and can kill the person!
OMG I was so shaken up.. I am feeling like his treatment is way more than I can handle. I am fine now, I have calmed down and Iam looking up every drug Justin takes but whats so frustrating is that this boy of mine who is not well does not even have a medical doctor of his own who knows him, who knows what meds he is on, who knows what his history is. This was my fault for allowing Justin to go to a hospital by himself and trusting him to not ask the Dr. for Benzo's.
But should the Doctor have prescribed Benzo's to a known drug addict?? He saw in Justin's file that he had been there 4 times this year seeking Benzo's (I found this out after!) It was all just very scary how easily Justin can get a random Doctor to prescribe shit to him!
I told Justin that no matter what he is not treating his anxiety with Benzo's I flushed them down the toilet! He agreed that he did not like the way they made him feel but I'm pretty sure he went in there hoping to get them and would take them if he could.
