As much as I had a problem with her substance abuse, I think she had more of a problem with me not being a "partier" (PC word for addict). She would constantly accuse her of judging her, even though I never said a single thing condemning her use. I did make remarks about her behavior when stoned or drunk, but never about the drug use itself. I think by the end of the relationship, this was really gnawing at her as she was realizing that she would have to quit for the relationship to continue - and she just couldn't do it - she was addicted to the lifestyle, and addicted to the drug.
Addicts want someone to enable and validate their use. Your son won't want to be around women who lift him up until he is ready to quit. Nobody else can change him.
