My daughter was married to a man and he quit his job to stay home and play video games. She was just finishing grad school.
He said if they ever needed money, he would enter tournaments, or play on line poker...or do mixed marshal arts fighting...(yeah, I could have taken him!)
It is like any other addiction...a numbing oneself to not feel.
And just like any other addiction, if he does not see a problem, he will not be willing to change.
Short of a power outage, or planned date nights away from the TV...I have no suggestions except to take care of yourself and go off and have a life and see if he notices.
BTW, my daughter is no longer married to him.
Why do you stay with this boyfriend? I'm not saying he has a problem. He obviously has Aspergers...and that is a health/brain thing...and his types usually do escape to this type of world.
To me it just sounds like he is not the right boyfriend for you. You can't change him. He needs to be happy and so do you. When we are in relationships we are supposed to bring out the best in each other and if we can't its not the right relationship.
He is shutting down on you. He is stuck on the video games. He isn't going to change. So to me you have two choices. Adapt to it and love him as he is or #2 end the relationship. SO MUCH EASIER said than done to end a relationship believe me I know.
But, if that is what is determined to be the best thing to do..no matter how hard it is....you have to do it for yourself and for him.
You don't sound happy and he doesn't sound happy when he is shut off of the VGs. My goal is to be happy...and if I have to go thru some tough times to get there (i.e....leave my b/f)...than I will do it. Life is short...very short.
