I just got home at 1130 pm because I was out driving around looking for my son who was MIA . I am grateful to say that while I was out my son called from jail . Arrested ! Don't know the details except someone in the car had drugs . I am so grateful sounds crazy right? But only the family of an addict would understand that I am grateful because he is alive! I am grateful that he did not hurt himself or anyone else while driving ! I am grateful that God may have used this avenue to wake him up ! I really thought he was dead somewhere so to me jail is like winning the lottery! Do I want to slap him silly if course I don't know the details will he lose his license? Make bail? ( I'm not bailing his ass out I always warned him about that) I will wait and see how it all unfolds, it's a shame but it could always be a lot worse. So tonight I ask you my friends to pray that this happened for a reason and I am cautiously hopeful he will use this as a wake up call. Love you guys thanks Dee

At the almost worst of my son's addiction, after a two day disapearance, I came to realize that jail was great if it happened, and i had a moment of clarity where I realized that if he did die, that my husband and I would have peace- we would mourn- but have some peace, and so would his tortured soul. I never thought my brain or heart could go there. Once I did, I was changed forever. Jail was great by compairson. Only people like us understand that.

I am sorry he was stupid enough to have people in the car with drugs. I am glad he is safe. I am sorry you were so worried. I eventually stopped looking when I found out that while I was up all night, he was passed out somewhere. Again, we have no control.

I too can totally relate. It's a gift of peace knowing he's safe and will hopefully learn more than you know as long as you keep to your decree of "not bailing his ass out." After my son's arrest, I too did not bail him out and when all the dust settled he called me last April and said words I never imagined coming out of his mouth "...you and dad were right about everything and I should have listened..." I believe this was when his light bulb went on and I'm hopeful it will be that way for your son as well. Hang in there and will keep you in my prayers during what will hopefully be his time of enlightenment...

Dee, I am glad he is safe and no one was injured!
And you are right....who would ever understand or relate to this crazy path we are on (loved ones of addicts)?!?! But know that WE here on this site DO understand and "get" what you are going through!
You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers, and I will pray that your son chooses to accept help!

no one but us could understand that feeling of relief when you get a call from the jail. glad he is safe. wishing you strength and prayers for the days ahead . hugs :)

So true that "outsiders" can't understand the feeling of relief you have when you hear of your kids arrest...but we all get you dear one... And when they've been " out there, MIA" it is even magnified. Holding you up in prayer sweetie... M too...

I agree with your decision, he got himself arrested so he needs to figure out what to do about getting himself out. I can't say that this will wake him up, but I hope he seeks help and will pray for both of you.

I just want to thank everyone for their prayers and concern for myself and my son. I have spoken to him twice and he is very remorseful but I can't help but be mad and sad that he got himself into this situation. He was doing so well for a long stretch but as we know it is a sickness that needs constant work on his part to manage. I am going to see him tonight which is a first for me visiting my son in jail . I am grateful beyond words that I am not visiting a cemetery. So as Kim always says where there is life. There is HOPE. Love you all Dee

Dee, I'm so sorry I have been out of the country and haven't been on lately. Thank the good lord, that he is alive. You know Dee, the biggest problem with our young addicts is that they are doing things that young people never think of the consequences coupled with them being addicts make its that much worse. I will keep Matt is my prayers, and never give up hope my friend. hugs,
