on the other note of your post...when he calls? don't argue with a drunk. you could put down the phone and make a cup of tea and come back and he would still be vomiting up his illness at you.
either hang up on him....nicely or not. or just know that you cannot deal with someone in the middle of using. period. half the time he won't even remember it anyway. been there. done that.

I know blueviolet. He said a few other things Im too embarrassed to mention on here. He's always sorry the next day & apologizes numerous times. I told him if he is truly sorry, he would quit the behavior. He is so young & immature. God help him

While it is not the most direct solution... I remember cheering for my mother when she learned to QUIETLY hang up on her father when he would call to threaten and harass her while he was drinking. Once she knew it was one of THOSE calls she would just place the receiver down. He was too out of it to fully remember when she had left the call. I always remember that when dealing with this sort of thing. The drinker truly does not care what you say, think, or need at those times. When my son would call in a similar way, I was glad I had learned from her. (Happy to say he is sober now... Hopefully that will last)

missmaple, how awesome that your son is sober! I am praying SO hard that my son doesn't have to fall much further to wake up. I told him to please "STOP CALLING when you're drunk" . No mother or father wants to talk with their kids when they're drunk. He is so cynical & depressing. I told him last time, that I would hang up on him if he calls in a stupor again. It was hard, but it's driving me crazy.

My son also calls me and asks for help. I've tried so many times to guide him with his alcoholism. It is an addiction and they can't do it by themselves. I read an article that suggested that a diet with more vitamin C, lecithin and some other healthy supplements helps curb the need for alcohol. But the person with the illness can't cope with these healthy habits on their own. God is a very important part of dealing with alcoholism and my son is a believer. I hope that your son and mine can find help at a church nearby. They need someone to be there for them that has been through this or has the background to deal with the enormous burden of addiction.
