I just found out another of our sons' friends just overdosed and died. Her cousin died a week prior as well.
There is a picture my son has of himself and 4 friends, of these 5, there are only two left on this earth, the other 3 have died of an overdose.
I talked with him and he told me she had been doing okay, trying to get clean, several times. He is devastated by this news, but he said it confirms his path more now. He refuses to 'go out like that'.
I'm so saddened as well, this was a sweet young girl, with SO much personality and life in her. Her and her sister lived in the same neighborhood and would always be by the house. I can't imagine the pain her parents are going through. They lost another daughter years back to an illness. I pray for her family/friends.

Of 25 men in the halfway house and sober living house that my son was in...8 are dead, Including his roommate. all the rest are using again. Somehow, my son is the only one sober.
Addiction is a terrible disease. And it gets MORE dangerous when the addict stops for a while and fails. they think they need to use the amount they use to use...but now, they don't need as much and the OD. That is what happened to Cardinal's daughter too.
Tell your son that there is a whole internet group rooting for him. Tell him how proud of him we are.
