Thank you so much for reaching out. I couldn't find a nar-anon meeting near me, but, there are quite a few al-anon. My hubby is suppose to start a program next week that deals with addictions therapy and I'm hoping it will work, although, I don't think he has really admitted to himself that he has a problem. At what point do I leave thought?

hhmm, have you been through this for a while now? I am only asking because you are jumping to leaving as a real possibility quickly. There is nothing wrong with that, don't get me wrong, if that is how you feel, you should. I wonder if that is what you feel you have to do, if you are just at that point, or if this has happened before. Remember that you can only control your actions, and that you cannot depend on getting any reactions.

I do wonder how much you are willing to put in to a program to support someone that you do not feel will be working their program. I would like to suggest that you look at this as something for yourself, and approach it in that way so that no matter what he does or does not do or follow through with, you are building a good support system and working on a good foundation for a better life for yourself. Also, this does not exclude the possibility that if he does get himself together, there would be room for that.

Without being too nosy, I would like to mention that if your screen name refers to any real fear of harm, then, yes, do leave sooner rather than later.

Unless you have a real gut feeling that leaving should be at the forefront right now, try to take it as it comes. It is great that you know and accept that as a possibility, but just make sure that you do things in a way that you can stay true to. Coming and going sends very mixed signals, as much to yourself as to the addict. You do not want to make yourself feel like you are unsure or cannot trust your feelings. Take it one step at a time, and do the things you are sure of.

Thank you nikki; no, i'm not scared of him, he is not violent and yes, I've been going through this for quite some time now, a couple of years. He has an addictive personality, first it was alcohol, then pot, now this. I don't really want to leave him, but, I just don't know........I am going to find an al-anon meeting to attend. He starts a program next week and hopefully he will stick with it this time.

Alanon is a great place to go to get help. I have been going for about 3 years and it has helped me incredibly. You will hear "keep coming back"...take that advice. You are there for you not him. I was so comforting to be in a room with other people who knew exactly how I felt and weren't judging me, my husband or my situation.
I hope you find comfort there.
