On Friday my son agreed to go back and talk to counselor at his previous IOP treatment center. He agreed to go back and starts on Monday, we will be going to the Doctor in the afternoon to be evaluated for short term Suboxene detox and then tomorrow evening he will start IOP. He said he wants to get his life back among many other things that sounded very
Positive. I want so badly to feel happy and believe every word he saying that he has made this decision, but I am so frighten of course I fear the let down, I explained to him that this time it's up to him, that I cannot do it, he has to do it. I continued to tell him I will be supportive on his road to sobriety by attending the family nights and offering a positive voice. Is it normal to feel frightened? There has been so many lies and so much damage that has been done, but I know in order for him to move forward, we have to turn the page. How do you let the past be the past and move forward?

Its a step, with addiction it is step forward, back two, couple steps forward then back one step. Hopefully these step forward start to keep going forward with only an occasional step back. Its a growing process and it takes time.
It is very normal to feel frighten and unsure. As a parent, when they are growing up you do all you can so they can have a promising future. Then drugs got in the way.
Just keep telling yourself it is out of my control.
