Hi everyone,
Feels like ages since the last time I was active in the group, but I drop by every other day to see how youre doing. For reason unclear even to me, I find it hard to participate.. Its like I dont have the words to offer support or show how happy I feel with the good news.
Since my brother joined an outpatient methadone programme, I am becoming more silent about him as each day goes by. I know its fear. Its the first time he actively asked for help on his own. So, its a new thing for me. I dont know how to feel about it. Am I happy about it? No. Am I sad about it? Of course not. Im just numb.
With my wedding day approaching the Brother Issue was put on the table. My parents want him there, if he is OK. I, on the other hand, dont know, even if he looks / feels better. Im just numb.
What Ive learned through all these years and through this great group is to take things one step at a time. So, Im applying that now. True, there are moments are I break and start playing out life scenarios in my mind about my brother and the fate of his child, but then I think about what youd say and come back to reality. So, even if Ive been inactive in DS for weeks, youre still with me, still helping out. I suppose an enormous thank you" is in order :)
Funnily enough, my brother asked for help when my fianc and I decided to stop postponing our wedding. Strange coincidence. I wish it were a miracle. I wish our lives became more stable, brighter, with less Big Issues and more happiness.
This I wish to all of you, too, from the bottom of my heart. May 2013 be a good year for all of us.

If somehow he is coming, he has to be sober, or shown the door. the day is about you and your husband.. I say set the rules, have everyone agree and forgettaboutit!

Ellie, I too think it's a giant step for my brother, but only time will tell how far he'll go. I hope things are better with you and your sister.
Beantown and Katrinka, it's so important to me to see other people understanding that this numbness is just numbness not meanness or indifference.
Marg and Blue, I was thinking about you.. I felt for you and wished things were different for you families on the wedding day. But if you managed to do it, I can do it too [have a good day even if he's not there]. It's just a day.
