That is the reason why....you said it yourself. You "use to be able to talk about any and everything". You are resentful because you are missing that person. I feel your pain! I couldn't even stand to be in the same room as my son, and we were inseparable.

I think it is part of the mourning process too..the anger and the sadness. when you get past it, you will feel better, even if the situation doesn't change.
I felt the same way, and I think it was terrible for my health.

joenick1961 & blueviolet are spot-on. I was always close to my son but he became a stranger to us. I missed him so desperately that I literally felt like he'd died. As blueviolet mentioned, it's terrible for your own health . . . as well as the health of your other relationships. It puts a tremendous strain on the entire family. I think it becomes a matter of self-preservation . . . we have to protect ourselves, our marriages, our families. An addict is a poison and there is an oppressive - even demonic - presence that accompanies them.

It is so hard. It is just SO hard.

It is definitely a mourning process. I had become addicted to his addiction and could not focus or function on anything else. I was missing my son, who I had so many hopes and dreams for. It is not easy.....never, ever easy!
