After walking away for a while and doing some serious on myself, I am back. In the meantime, my daughter has become addicted to pain meds and her crack addict boyfriend continues on his downward spiral. I have changed some of my opinions on how I deal with the addicts in my life. And a lot has happened. I have become friends with a "new" person on this group and read several of the posts and thought I could once again offer my "experience,strength and hope." And now sadly, can add to that having a daughter who is now an addict. I know some of us did not see eye to eye before....and I had to work on me, before I could again offer support.

sometimes I totally disagree with things being said...but we all have our own journey, and even the person we are writing to has to pick and chose among the opinions. At least we all know we are not alone. Sometimes I get too sad, and have to take a break, or just not read certain posts. My goal is to get people to think for themselves first, and not the addict...that took me years...and as a mom of adults, now I still have to remind myself that I have no control over any situation, good or bad, and still find it hard to be "out of the loop".

I think its healthy not to always agree if we did we would be robotic. What a boring place this would be! I'm glad your back!

Many times I do not agree with the replies but everyone's situation is very unique and complex...!! However, our common denominator is that our lives have been turned upside down and inside out by an addicted loved one.
I am coming around to thinking like Lynne...It is time for me to start thinking about me again. Enough is enough !! Hopefully my two addicted sons ( they were both addicted to Oxydodin ) will not relapse!! However, they have replaced their previous oxy addiction with alcohol...Thanksgiving Eve they both became totally wasted...They ganged up on me for some reason...Were verbally abusive and just plain crazy. I have the house up for sale..Plan to sell it and move away. Its time This is not the first time one or the other son has become insanely intoxicated...But it is getting worse and more frequent !! My oldest son was talking to me on Skype and he could see and hear his younger brother in the office where I had escaped...My oldest son ( I have three sons ) called the sheriff in my area and the dispatcher even could hear my youngest sons threats and verbal abuse...My oldest lives clear across the country..He moved away just to get away from the insanity caused by his brothers addiction to Oxys.

Bec...if they are drinking, they are NOT in recovery. I find how easy we use that word. Using any drug...including alcohol means there is no recovery. They just switch addiction. My ex used to remind me constantly that yes, he had a problem with crack, but he had no problem with booze. But sooner or later, every time he drank, he'd either end up in jail or go back to crack.

But as far as moving on with life. It was not easy when I first moved out on my own (over the age of 50 I might add); but I would not give up my life now for anything or anybody. I used to think that some day I'd end up with my parents' house. Now, I don't care. I have a life I want. I have dreams and goals and plans. And for good or bad, I don't care what my family thinks.
