I recently broke up with my boyfriend about 2 weeks after he was discharged from a 30 day alcohol detox program. Our relationship was going in two different directions and I believed he wasn't taken his sobriety serious.
Two weeks after our break up I received a phone call from him apologizing for everything he has done to me and he told me no one in his life has been the kind of person I have been to him. Through that phone call, I felt something was off. I saw him then 20 minutes after that phone conversation and I was right, he was drunk. There was a bottle of vodka in the freezer and one empty in the garbage. I stayed with him for awhile to make sure he was ok before I left. I went back the next day and he was still drunk.
Last night, he came over to my place and he claimed he was sober, but he was drunk. We are not together anymore. I still love him, but that type of love has changed. I did let him spend the night because I didn't want him to get in the car and drive. I'm not sure if me letting him come over is enabling him or not?!? I'm not sure if I should have kicked him out?? When his buddy stopped by and saw that he was drunk, he immediately got up and left.
I do know that I don't want this type of relationship in my life. However, I kind of feel stuck. I'm afraid that he is going to get in a car accident, maybe hurt himself or others along the way. Do I just cut him off completely? I feel like I'm being a sucker. Any advice would be appreciated... Everyone has been so great on this site! :)

you already did the hard part, you did the breaking up.
You are not his babysitter, and what he chooses to do is up to him.
give him an inch, he'll take a mile.
call him a cab if he shows up drunk, or the cops. let him sleep in the car.
you are worrying about a future that is not yours, not under your control or influence and really none of your concern. Be free.
