Families & Friends Of Addicts Support Group
Addiction affects more than just the individual. This community is dedicated to the families and friends of individuals suffering from any form of addiction. Mental health professionals are increasingly considering alcoholism and addiction as diseases that flourish in and are enabled by family systems. Family members react to the addicted person with particular behavioral...
While there are members who have lost their loved ones to addiction, and their souls are free; there are some who have had their addicts get sober. (we never know why some make it and some do not...it is not a lack of love or praying)
Many of those "end results" people move on.
After a few years of my son's sobriety i didn't feel 1. I belonged or 2. it depressed me too much or 3. I didn't want to think about him going back to using....and I cut down on my participation.
But, I want to share what i learned and be of some support, so I try...
My son is getting engaged this next week and has a really nice job with benefits and has been sober over 5 years...6 on April 8th. He did jail numerous times, dropped out of college twice, almost died or got killed a few times (I don't want to know all the war stories)...and sometimes he is still can be a jerk. He is my kid, he is sober and his journey is still not up to me (unless he asks our advice)
I hope that these posts are a light at the end of the tunnel for some of you.
And Mom of 3 I hope he continues down his path to health.
Once my son had been off heroin for 1 year, I was no longer turning to DS for solace and support. But when he had a relapse this year, you were all here for me, and it is so comforting to find your familiar "faces": blue, jainlor, dmatt. We who are struggling still have a lot to gain from your experience. You have walked the same path we are on and you are guides for us on our journey to wellness.
Despite the suffering in each of our lives, there is great kindness and sharing and resilience that is nurtured right here among us. Thanks to all of you!
Don't think that you are in bad time, feel free :)
I think you should talk to your friends, have a good time with your family & do outings, but you need to talk.
Don't lose faith in yourself, then everything will go well and fine. I'll try to help you.
