My husband is working at sobriety. But still uses those same manipulations whenever we need to have a serious discussion, I mean when I try to have a serious discussion. I have to keep reminding myself not to get tangled in the game. Phew!!!!
My husband also pulls the you don't love me card. REALLY ?.... I'm still here, but REALLY? He does make it hard sometimes to like him.

She has always tried to make me feel bad and intentionally tries to push my buttons because if I react to her at all, I am in some way backing up her belief that I am "a mean and selfish daughter who doesn't care about anyone but herself." These words hurt, but I find it interesting because deep down I think this is how she feels about herself, not me.
It sounds like your husband is trying to spark some sort of reaction from you to justify his reasons for drinking and is projecting his internalized feelings and insecurities on you.
