I am so sorry. Now, you have to learn how to take care of yourself. Being business minded, the first thing is to set up an emergency bank account for yourself. Alcoholics lose jobs, cars etc.Second, is to learn not to enable. if he falls down, leave him there. don't clean up his messes. The third, is to take care of you (that actually may be first!) and to continue any healthy activities you are involved in. When we are with sick people, we get ill as well...so nurture yourself. We can also be the light in the tunnel for them. If you are interested in Al anon...go. If not, there are plenty of resouces. And if he goes to rehab at some point and they have a family counceling...participate. Welcome to our group.

Good advice from blue violet. I live with an alcoholic too, who's headed to treatment in a couple of days. I've been seeing a counsellor and working on me. I can't fix my husband, and I'm sick and tired of all the bs that goes along with having an AH. No-one deserves to live like this.

Blue violet, it's funny you should say that about the bank account. I just came back here today, I wonder if I sensed your advice, because I went and did just that on Friday morning. He has been through $30,000 in 14 months (most of his inheritance from his mother). So I opened a new account, put most of my money in it, and most of his. Then I let him know that I was essentially holding it for ransom until he replenished some of it, and tried to clean up his act.
I may have to cut some ties. . . I have MS, and I can't have extra stress in my life. Might seem harsh, but I need to protect myself and my kids.

My prayers are with you and your family...you did the right thing with the money I had to make changes in my husband bank acct and I took his atm card away also transfer his money to my acct soon as it is deposit in his acct...be blessed !
