Hi. I am new to this group but not DS - I am also a member of the fibromyalgia group.
What brings me here is my alcoholic husband. We went through hell when he got sober 15 years ago. So he has been sober for 15 years and then got a stressful job and chose to deal with it by drinking again and stealing my pain pills. When he first started drinking again this last summer I told him I am not willing to wait months nor years for him to hit his bottom - I refuse to live with an active alcoholic again - I did it for years before with him..
We have been together since I was eighteen - 30 years. I kept confronting him about taking my pain pills and of course he denied it - this was before he started drinking again. I finally caught him in the act of stealing my pain meds after he started drinking again. I had locked them up and he picked the lock. So then I had to finally to carry them in my pocket all the time.
He offered to move out - I think because he just wanted to keep drinking without being hassled about it, plus I was super pissed about him stealing my pain meds.. So he moved out about 2 months ago. I wanted the separation and I wanted him to move out but it has still been very hard. I know he is the only one who can make himself stop drinking. He is now also taking Vicoden daily - prescribed because he needs a total knee replacement - his knee is bone on bone. I am not in love with him but I do love him and care about his well being.
We do have to communicate a lot still - we have a 17 yr old son and for other reasons . I have told him not to call me when he is drinking and most of the time he respects that now but at first he didnt and he was driving me crazy. But often communicating with him when he is sober is difficult also because he is angry when he is not drinking.
I am mostly homebound because of my illness and right now I have broken ribs. I hope to be able to go back to Alanon and probably a counseler at some point - but it wont happen for awhile - I have pain everyday that effects my abilities, but these broken ribs are really difficult.

Although sad, it does sound like you have things under control...you have set your boundaries and you are working to take care of yourself.
I feel badly for your 17 year old...hopefully this will show him how dangerous it will be for him to mess around with any drugs or alcohol...
I hope we can be of support to you, and that you can add wisdom to our group.
