My husband got caught talking to one of his old buddies who was an addict, I do know the friend got help and claims to be on the right track..however dont' they all!

Once I confronted my husband he did end up telling me the truth, which I was actually shocked about. We had a few long talks and we both redevoted ourselves to recovery (i've struggled with alcohol in the past and part of my job now is to help people in their recovery also).
He's been reading his NA book and we talk about how we are handling things and share passages. He claims he is not seeing this "friend" but they do text a lot. And he said he thinks he's ready to hang out with him but doesn't want to just in case he does relapse as that's what happened before when he hung around people in his past. He's very weak when it comes to his friends as he has the need to be accepted. But he always used to say he knows that being around these people before was his downfall. Yet when I remind him of that he is ignoring his own advice.I think he wants to believe he is strong enough but of course he isn't looking outside the box at the situation.

I just dont' know what to believe. I'm not sure if he's trying to stay clean and helping his friend or if he's just blowing smoke up my ass. It's hard to tell with an addict. And I know if I push him away from his friend he will just want to talk to him even more or hang out with him. So do I let him make his own choices here? I don't want him to put this family through that again but am I pushing him more towards using? Do I hope that he's gonna stay recommited and help this friend or that he's gonna fall down himself in the process? I keep looking for signs of relapse and I think i'm driving myself crazy! I question every little thing he does and I certainly dont' want to live like that. But I also don't want to see him lose everything important to him.
