I lost a close friend nine years ago to suicide. I loved and cared for this person very much, and losing her has been something that's been hard to handle for a long time now.
Lately I find her on my mind a lot- I'm doing a wedding photography session this weekend in the same park where her memorial service was held. And the anniversary of her death was just earlier this week. We spent a lot of time together at that park before she died, and I'm nervous about going there and facing those demons at a time when I'm supposed to be cheery and chipper and professional. I'll probably be fine, but I imagine that I'll come home with an ache in my heart.
Any suggestions on how to deal with this? I didn't think it would affect me this much so many years after her death...

I hope the day goes quickly for you and this project gets done and over with as fast as possible. If you have an assistant, it may be a good idea to bring them along. Maybe even a friend that can carry your flash and things. If you don't just try to look at is a another job in some park. Also think about how many people have been in that park since you and your friend were. It has been a long time, think about how much the park has changed.
I know it must be very exhausting just thinking about doing the job, but it will be here and finished before you know it. Hang in there, and let us know how it went.
My friend committed suicide nearly 3 1/2 years ago and I've never been the same. I've also been rpone to avoid places where we spent a lot of time together, and I do everything in my power to avoid driving by the church where she's buried.
As I'm sure you know, there are times that are worse than others. There are times when I'll think about my friend more and more, and then weeks when I'll hardly think of her at all.
The best I can tell you is that it'll always affect us.
When I'm faced with those situations I normally try to distract myself, finding something to laugh about or fixating on something to keep my mind off of her.
