My ex-boyfriend who I was with for 6 years, took his life on Nov. 26. Even though we weren't together, I still loved him and I will always love him. He was my first true love. We just weren't good together anymore. He was an ex marine and an alcoholic. He didn't want to change and I couldn't keep going down the same path over and over. I just keep wishing this is a dream and I will wake up and none of it will be true. I don't know how to feel one minute I'm crying. the next I'm fine and then the next I'm pissed and angry at him. He tried doing it almost 2 years ago, but we were still together and I stopped him last time with all my calls and text messages. I feel so bad for his family, who I still love so much! I just don't know what to do right now! I'm so lost!!

First of all breathe, and then take one minute at a time. Embrace each emotion as they come, and there will be many sometime all in the same hour. All you can do is be kind to yourself and supportive to his family. I hope you are not feeling any guilt because there was nothing you or anyone could have done to stop him he wanted his time on this earth to be done. I believe they are in a place of peace now.

Know the pain you are experiencing is normal. Know that you must grieve in order for the pain to subside. Know it will take a long time for the pain to become less painful. Know you will never "get over it" but you will live again.

I have so much guilt and I blame myself everyday. That is the first thing I feel in the morning. There is sometimes, day I would rather just lay in bed and let the guilt eat at me. I have so many questions. So many should, could and what ifs running in my head it isn't funny.

I hurt so much everyday yet. I sometime like to think its not true and that he will text me any day now. I'm still wanting for that text, but it hasn't came yet. I glad I have a good support system from my family, friends and his family. I support them as much as they support me. We are all in this together trying to figure out how to help each other. None of us know how to do that since really none of us saw this coming. It's like I died with him and he ripped my heart out when he went.

You did die when he died. I died when my husband killed himself, our entire future together died. I have since had to struggle with just "who am I" now, but that is a completely different subject for another time. You couldn't have helped him, you couldn't have stopped him. Please rely heavily on those around you that are wanting to help you, you will need them for a long time. I wish you well.

Everything you are feeling is painfully normal. I blamed myself for years after both of my brothers committed suicide. I was misplacing this blame. Do not play the what if I had only.... game.
