I'm Keri. I'm now 22 but when I was 21 I was engaged to this wonderful man who was 23.
It was a week before thanksgiving and i decided to stay with my mom for a few days because she had just had surgery the day before and my step father had to go out of town.
Well my fiancee had been feeling really down lately and he imed me on yahoo instant messenger telling me bye and that he was going to end his life. Well It was the first time he ever said anything about it to me. Well he signed off like really fast after saying he loved me and he's sorry for hurting me. He never hurt me. We where together since I was 15 and never broke up.
Well I got scared when he wouldn't answer his phone, so I called the cops and told them about it and they sent someone right away and they where to late. He shot himself in the head and it killed him instantly [obviously]. I can't help but feel that I'm responsible for it because if I had of called the cops right when he said it then he might still be alive they might have been able to save him :(
How does someone get through the loss of someone that had been there for them for so long when i couldn't even be there for him the one time he truly needed me?

I discovered my step-father after he fatally shot himself in the head. I went thru the what-ifs a hundred times, the guilt of not 'saving' him. For you, this was a person you were intimate with and I am deeply sorry for your loss. It's going to take time, lots of time. Be kind to yourself.
