Hi Everyone: My name is Judy and I was diagnosed with Factor V Leiden (1 chromosome) and Lupus Anticoagulant. I have had 3 DVT's in my right leg and I have 2 DVT's in my left leg. I'm 50 years old and I live in Rensselaer, NY (Across the bridge from Albany, NY). I am looking to make friends and find out more about Factor V Leiden. I am heterozygous. Thank you.

Hi Judy, Welcome to this support group. So sorry for your DVTs - no fun. I'll tell you what I know. Firstly, what I don't know. I have no experience or knowledge of Lupus Anticoagulant - I'm sorry you have this and wish you all the best. Now, what I do know. I had multiple, bi-lateral PEs (blood clots in both lungs) two years ago. I'm 44 and led a fairly healthy life then, so getting PEs was a complete shock. It turns out I'm Factor V Leiden Homozygote (which means 2 copies of the pesky gene). This makes me much more likely to clot, but I'm sure that there are other factors too. But the good news is that I'm currently clot free and healthy and don't intend to ever clot again. I'm on warfarin for life, but here are some other tips which I believe help: Drink water all the time, drink before sleep, if you wake, and when you wake in the morning. Drink before you leave the house and whenever travelling. Drink when you exercise. Wear flight socks when travelling for > 1 hour. Walk on trains / planes. Keep mobile (move every few minutes when awake, I'm jiggling my legs as I type this). Avoid (too much) alcohol (max of 1 unit per day). Don't have a hot bath before going to bed. Keep cool when you sleep. Avoid any supplements that contain Vitamin K and don't have too many green vegetables (sure, have some, but not too many). Avoid crossing your legs. Avoid too much tea / coffee. Note that I'm not a doctor, these are just lifestyle changes that I've found helpful. I wish you all the best. You'll find some useful help, support and advice on this forum. Best wishes. Andrew.

Hi Andrew: Thank you for the advice. I've been walking the dog. I just walk him around the block. What does water do for blood clots. When I'm on the computer I do move my legs every now and then. What types of exercise would be the best for people with DVT's. I also found out I'm homozygous for Factor V Leiden. What is Lupus Anticoagulant. Please feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like to. Best Wishes, Judy

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
