my daughter's boyfriend-2/2 went to ER with pain arm and lump-Now has confirmed Factor V-what is this all about? He thinks he will go back to work soon -and be back to prior work-flooring installation and refinishing-he is on meds gets/bloodwork prone to nosebleeds-is very sedentary-Does not tell his parents or me anything-gets angry and says he will handle this! any input as to how these things get better? His lump is still there/maybe a little smaller thanks Tess

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? If you are researching try this site: http://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/condition/factor-v-leiden-thrombophilia - with my dvt in my leg I went back to work after 5 days in the hospital - they wouldn't let me leave until I could inject Lovenox (heparin). I had to inject this medication and take blood test daily, then 2-3 days per week, etc. until finally my hematologist determined that I only need to take a baby aspirin twice a day. If I had both copies of this mutation he said I would have had to continue taking coumadin or warfarin indefinitely. If I have another DVT I will have to go on the coumadin therapy for the rest of my life.
All this to say that everyone is different, but if you have a concern do the research.
Factor V Leiden is, of course, heritary. You can have a full or 1/2 genen mutation. My doctor informed me a 1/2 gene mutation makes you 10 times more likely you will have clots in your lifetime. It doesn't mean you will, just 10 times more likely to. He said if I had a full gene mutation, I probably wouldn/t be standing in front of him. In my family this disorder is pretty prevalent. My father. 2 of 3 brothers, son, and neice all have 1/2 a gene mutation.
Your daughter's boyfriend's clot should be fully dissolved within 6 months or less. Untill then, he should not tax his respratory system too much, or his clot can migrate. I don't think his nose bleeds are a concern, unless they are excessive. Remember, while on blood thinners one bleeds alot more from just a simple nick, or cut. He will probably find that bruises appear without just cause. He probably does not want to worry anyone, and just wants to be treated normally, There is a certain helplessness that one can feel about a situation that one has not much control over, so don't harp about it.
Myself, along with most others go on a blood thinner for the rest of our lives. I am sure that doesn't sound very appealing to him either. All in all, it is not something he's happy about. Just give him some time to adjust, and become his old self again.
