Essential Tremor Support Group
Essential Tremor (ET) is a neurological disorder characterized by shaking of hands (and sometimes other parts of the body including the head), evoked by intentional movements. The incidence is unknown, but is estimated to be as common as one person in 20, and it is the most common type of tremor and also the most commonly observed movement disorder.

Anyone ever heard of having a tremmor only when you write? This is a really bad problem and causes me to not be able to write at all. Cannot find a Dr. that can tell me what it is.

It could be essential tremor. My tremor presented itself through writing. ET mainly effects fine motor skills, such as writing...

Thanks for you reply Soph03. Just trying to find out what this is. Can't seem to find a Dr. that can tell me.

It sounds like ET (essential tremors). There are different positions in which tremors occur. Postural, resting, etc... Writing is one of the things they make you do when they check for essential tremors. My father is now 87, but has them quite badly in the hands. They progressively worsen with age. Men tend to get them more in the hands and women head/neck, but you can have both as well. The only way to get it checked out is to go to the Neurologist and they can do certain coordination/writing tests.

yep writing is definatly one of the things that bothers me. In seventh grade, I remember my hands were shaking so badly trying to write a report that I couldn't hold the pencil. I was young and frustrated and threw the pencil down. My teacher asked me if I needed to get my medicine (which at the time was xanex) and after I took that, my hands shook less and I was able to continue my report.

Of course there is the medicine that I am taking now. It is addictive but in the end we become dependent on our medicine anyway because tremors doesn't go away. I am taking Klonopin (Clonazapam) and this helps with my panic attacks and my shaking. I take 4.5 mg a day.

I'm grateful for a keyboard and the erase keys. The tremors get to the point that I can't hit the right keys. My handwriting has to be continuely updated with the bank for my check signing. My sister writes all my checks. As I get older my tremors seem to be getting worse. I use weighted utensils when eating.

Thank you all for your replies. It is good to know that I am not the only one that has this problem. It sounds like some even have it worse than me. I did find some info online about "Primary writers tremmor". Guess that is what I will call it.

Oh yes, I have the same thing. It is part of having essential tremors. I think it is partly psychological too. It seems to worsen if I am under pressure. Don't feel alone
