Esophageal Cancer Support Group

Esophageal cancer is malignancy of the esophagus. There are various subtypes. Esophageal tumors usually lead to dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), pain and other symptoms, and is diagnosed with biopsy. Small and localized tumors are treated with surgery, and advanced tumors are treated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy or combinations.

Looks like it's been quiet on this board for a few days, so I thought I would post something to keep it going,

Just past 9 months since surgery and waiting for another CT Scan next month.

My wife and I celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary with a vow renewal ceremony, something I wasn't sure would happen when this journey started last May.

I have recently found a few more EC related sites on the WEB and one on Facebook.

Everyone here remains in my prayers.

Feeling ok generally. I was out shoveling snow today. I am still concerned about the occasional heartburn I have. Last week I saw my
primary care doc and got an ekg which was normal. I've been taking a omeprazole and it seems to help with the reflux.

I had a history of ulcers and bleeding ulcers before being diagnosed with EC. At diagnosis, I had been on omeprazole for 9 years, but just before the operation for EC was switched to pantoprazole because of recurring heartburn. The Doctor said she thought I had become resistant to omeprazole. Pantoprazole works better for me for heartburn than omeprazole, but I still need occasional antacids in addition, 2-1/2 years after surgery for EC.

I'm glad your surgery is a thing of the past & I'm praying for you that you will continue on a cancer free path and keep feeling better and better every day.

Even when the board is a little quiet, there are many of us checking in frequently to give support, prayers, and share our experiences with EC.
