Esophageal cancer is malignancy of the esophagus. There are various subtypes. Esophageal tumors usually lead to dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), pain and other symptoms, and is diagnosed with biopsy. Small and localized tumors are treated with surgery, and advanced tumors are treated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy or combinations.
Not only am I new here on this blog posting arena, but I am also relatively new to esophageal cancer. I was diagnosed less than a month ago on March 29, 2018. Since then, I have been on a roller coaster of emotions, to include depression, scared, helpless, hopeless, isolation, anger, and just plain old pissed off. How could this happen to me? I take care of myself. I go to the gym 3-4 times a week. Eating habits could be a bit better, but, all in all, I am a fairly healthy guy. I guess it doesn't matter who you are, how good a shape you are in as to who who gets stricken with cancer. I certainly don't get it.
Recent biopsy show Adenocarcinoma. I am scheduled for an Esophagectomy on May 18, 2018. Reaching acceptance in your own mind is important to getting back to normal thinking. You then have a chance to apply rational thinking to a difficult time. I wish you the best.
I lost my 42 yr old brother from this terrible disease early this year. He fought till the end. Please continue to fight! Faith is the most important and beautiful gift we are given.
