With the ACA law functioning now, I can't imagine having to pay such high prices. Have you checked on your state's exchange pool - if there isn't one, you can enroll in the federal program. If his income is less than 22K a year, he may qualify for Medicaid; beyond this, he can have up to 46K income and still receive subsidies to help cover insurance. The annual cap before the government takes over expenses is only 6300 a year. Since insurers can no longer deny coverage for pre-existing, he's guaranteed coverage. Also, if he can't work, he'd be eligible for SS Disability.

My father is on disability already. I am doing some research to see if I can find some other programs that may help. This prescription is a experimental drug the doctor wants my father to be on including the chemo. My father feels like it isn't needed because it is experimental. But I really don't know.

I was in a study and the drugs that were a part of the study didn't cost me anything, which I think is pretty common with studies? But other medicines that weren't covered by it, were covered mostly by insurance I had. I definitely didn't pay anything like you are talking about with your Dad. No one would forget amounts like that - wow! Here's hoping there is help to cover the cost. Brenda

If he is on Xeloda, my husband got some kind of co-pay support from the company so he only paid about $40 a month. Margaret

Is he over 60? If he is 60 or over he can get help through your Commission on aging, or Area Agency on Aging. google those as every state has them.
And, yes, Xeloda is outrageous.

Get hold of the company, I was able to get them to pay the difference or only had to pay $20.00 to $60.00 out of packet.
