Esophageal cancer is malignancy of the esophagus. There are various subtypes. Esophageal tumors usually lead to dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), pain and other symptoms, and is diagnosed with biopsy. Small and localized tumors are treated with surgery, and advanced tumors are treated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy or combinations.

Fundoplication

They want me to now have a fundoplication, the meds are no longer stopping the reflux. Has anyone had one? I have had 5 emr's and radiofrequency with removal in the last 2.5 years. That did get rid of early stage cancer and I was clean for 6 months.

What about the metallic ring, that seems less invasive.

Dr. Feels ring will not work for me. I also had part of my colon removed. We have been looking at all options. That's why I love to see what other people think on this site. This site has been a big help to me. I don't post often but check it every day.

I'm new and posted on the GERD site yesterday. Awaiting responses. It sounds like you have been through allot to manage what you've been dealing with for so long? I am facing fundoplication. A couple of years of endless/worsening issues and multiple lifestyle changes haven't helped me. Based on what I have read/good and not so good outcomes, the thing I"m most concerned about is the ongoing issues causing cancer or wrecking my esophagus. I went through years of cancer tx in my early thirties which reeked havoc on my throat/swallowing. I'm well now but I am wondering if the wear and tear of years past has caught up with me? I am learning and hope you get the answers you need. Mostly, I've learned there is no perfect fix but I hope you find the one/s that fit you best! Ciao

My son has had a fundo, he was 3 years old. But it was very necessary as his reflex was projectile. The healing process was pretty short and he has had significant less reflex since he had the procedure. He now is almost 10 and has never had any complications.
