Esophageal cancer is malignancy of the esophagus. There are various subtypes. Esophageal tumors usually lead to dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), pain and other symptoms, and is diagnosed with biopsy. Small and localized tumors are treated with surgery, and advanced tumors are treated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy or combinations.

Hi All, my mother who was diagnosed with esophagus cancer almost 2 years back was been treated in India. She has gone thrugh series of kemo therapy and currently the cancer has spreaded to her lungs and due to which water has started creating in lungs which makes her uneasy to breathe.

We have tried all the best possible option available in india (Tata memorial hospital & Dr Advani ).

Can anybody suggest if there is any other option available across the world where who can treat ?

We do not know whom to contact outside India, so please help me.

You can get a lot of good info on line by looking at major cancer center web sites. Not sure where you want to travel. Stage four is tough. Good luck.

I'm fortunate enough to see the Mayo Clinic from my front window. I was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in August of 2016. It was stage 3 at the time. Chemo and radiation failed, so I'm now stage 4 and terminally ill.

Still, I had excellent care at Mayo. They have a team that specializes in EC, and it's very much a multi-discipline approach. They lined me up with a dietitian, social worker, psychological services, pain management, and when treatments failed, they set me up with hospice.

In my opinion, they did right by me; it isn't their fault the treatments failed, and they have a good success rate. I will say that treatments for stage 4 will be for comfort and prolonging life, as it's too late by then for a cure. I wish you all the best.
