Esophageal cancer is malignancy of the esophagus. There are various subtypes. Esophageal tumors usually lead to dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), pain and other symptoms, and is diagnosed with biopsy. Small and localized tumors are treated with surgery, and advanced tumors are treated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy or combinations.
had my appointment today with onc. i am still at every four months. no scan today just blood work and checkup. all went well. we decided to wait til june to have next scan, that will be 8 months since the last one. gets me anxious to keep pushing them further out but also happy that they think its ok to do that. it will be 3 yrs in august since diagnosis. she thinks at 3 yrs out i should be able to do only yearly scans. does that all sound right.? keeping you all in my prayers. He said all seems well. The CBC & CMP bloodwork I get (results) when I'm there, so he sees those, but the CEA (Tumor marker) takes a little more time (24+ hours) for the result, so probably (by now) they have it. They'll call, if there's any concern or I can call them. I like that they now have available (like my family Dr.) a site I can log into for my bloodwork/test results.
July will be 4 years from my Diagnosis and 3 years 8 months since my surgery :-) I'm glad all seems well and, like me, I'm sure we're making each day count making happy, loving memories :-)
Fred, I did get a little brave and asked a bit about my tumor marker. He said it does bounce around typically, so wasn't concerned. So, I am learning and hearing a little bit more :-) Hope you are doing well. Wish we all weren't spread so far around the US, so we could all meet for lunch and sharing in person! Maybe some of us could skype - although I haven't done that, I do have the equipment to do so. Just have to learn it - ha. Which can be a BIG deal to me :-) Brenda
