Esophageal Cancer Support Group
Esophageal cancer is malignancy of the esophagus. There are various subtypes. Esophageal tumors usually lead to dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), pain and other symptoms, and is diagnosed with biopsy. Small and localized tumors are treated with surgery, and advanced tumors are treated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy or combinations.
Last week i had my checkup. everything went well. NED. next month it will be 4 years since diagnosed. I go every 4 months for checkups and every 8 months for scans right now. so that means in october i have my next ct scan. I have my regular dr physical this month and they want me to have my scope/ colonoscopy yet this summer. NOT looking forward to that but know it has to be done... I have been so busy this summer and when i step back at night and look at myself, i am doing so well. I thank God for all he has given me. I remember when i couldnt shower alone or even swallow water for two months and now i have to watch myself because i am on my way to being chubby again...we take so many things for granted and i dont want to do that anymore! I try and get on here and read and comment at least once a week. I pray for you all here that are going through this. I want to send hugs and prayers to those in need. advice to those who are looking for help, but most of all encouragement to those who are on this crazy ride and know that with hope and faith you will get through this/

I'm grateful for a post like yours, because it gives me hope. I'm happy to hear that you're doing so well, and so much time has passed. And, the fact that you might worry about too much weight is like a miracle to me! I wish you well with your scope/colonoscopy.

Cindy.....congratulations on your good news. You and I are on a similar timetable....this past April was four years for me. You have good reason to be hopeful and excited. The longer we get out the better chance for long term survival. I was recently told that people like us....4 years out with NED....have better than an 80% chance of a normal life expectancy. That number only gets bigger as time goes on. I'm thrilled for you....ML.

That's great news Cindy! Always so happy to hear the news of NED! Looks like we'll be getting our next scan about the same time. I'm scheduled for a CT in October :-) Here's hoping we continue to get NED and many others along with us! Hugs, Brenda

Wow Cindy. That is amazing I am sure to show my mom and dad your post. What was your treatment plan when first diagnosed? Praying that you continue going from strength to strength.
