Esophageal Cancer Support Group

Esophageal cancer is malignancy of the esophagus. There are various subtypes. Esophageal tumors usually lead to dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), pain and other symptoms, and is diagnosed with biopsy. Small and localized tumors are treated with surgery, and advanced tumors are treated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy or combinations.

I am not sure if this is EC related or not.

Over the past 2 weeks I have noticed weakening in the muscles of my right thigh. I am having trouble with walking and stagger. I have reverted to using a cane which I was doing for the first couple of months after surgery.

I will be making an appointment with my primary care doctor to see if this may be EC related or if it is something entirely different.

If you have any other stroke symptoms, you need to go to the emergency room.

I agree. Don't wait--get it checked out immediately. It may be something totally benign, but you don't want to lose your balance, fall, and injure yourself.

I checked out the symptoms for a stroke and don't seem to have any others.

I saw my GP today. Getting an MRI on Monday for the L4 disc area.

It may be a pinched nerve.

Of course after the past months, anything new has me jumpy.

Thanks Everyone,

I am starting to be concerned. This morning as I was coming downstairs I started to get real nausea like I have never had since
the surgery. I broke out in a sweat and my heart rate went up.
It passed after a few minutes and I was able to keep breakfast down.
Then I fell asleep in the chair for 90 minutes.
When added to the recent weakness of my right leg, this may not be a good sign.

I will be calling the doctor.

More prayers needed.

Had the MRI. Not EC related. Looks like I have to have back surgery for some bad discs.

Well I guess that is good, but another surgery does not sound like fun.any chance you could try physical therapy first. I have heard of surgical candidates who opted PT and healed that way. Every case is different. Good luck

That was my first thought as well--whoopee, not EC- or heart-related! But (second thought) what a royal pain, having to face yet another surgical procedure so soon! Back surgery is no fun--I'd definitely get a second opinion and see if there are any other options.

I see a neurosurgeon om May 19 to sort this out. It possible that therapy may be tried first.

Thanks everyone.

I am puzzled. I am coming up on the first year anniversary of my surgery in two week. No chemo/rad was needed. Two weeks ago a started having dry heaves. Had an endoscope today. Remaining esophagus ok. The new junction ok. The duodenum is ok. But here is the kicker. The stomach is showing as two chambers. I assume the upper chamber is part of the new "esophagus" and that showed up as ok. The lower section seems to be irritated and contained some food residue. The GI Doc could not find any tumor but the food residue blocked the view. He took some tissue for biopsy. So the waiting game is back and I am on a liquid diet for now. Has anyone post-surgery had this experience.

I'm going to contact someone who posts on here ( off & on) to see if what she recently learned might be similar to you. if it is the same they are thinking a pill would help to fix her issue. I'll advise her where your post is - by the subject. Brenda
